Should I get a Nook or a Kindle?

I was wanting a nook or a kindle to read because I love to read and I heard by using one of these is easier. I was wondering which was better in the long run. Which is cheaper? And what about the books? Are nookEbooks cheaper that kindleEbooks? My birthday is coming up and Im trying to pick one out. Thanks!!<3
