Has the church the responsibility of trying to stop violence between religions?

All through time there has been conflict between religious groups from different religions. Is it not time to do something about it. There is so much distrust in the world. If religious leaders are truly men of peace, lets see them sort it out, though I believe each and everyone one of them is too insular to worry!
